You've read all about who I'm not. But, who am I?
Simply put, I'm Michael and I'm a tax accountant. The EA at the end of my name stands for Enrolled Agent which means I'm a federally licensed tax practitioner that's enrolled to practice before the IRS. To maintain my Enrolled Agent status, I must follow stricter ethics requirements than unenrolled tax preparers and need to complete at least 16 hours of continuing education on taxes every year.
I own Eckstein Tax Services where I prepare and file hundreds of tax returns, fight dozens of IRS notices, and keep dozens of business compliant every year. All with one goal: making taxes painless (and saving clients money, but that didn't fit in the tagline).
I hate what tax season has become. It's now a bunch of three-month tax shops and ceaseless ads for the biggest, bestest refund ever™!Tax season doesn't need to be crazy. It doesn't need to be stressful. It can be a walk in the park.
Outside of the office, I'm the Treasurer for the Huntington Business Improvement District. We advocate for local businesses, organize many of the decorations around town (check out the murals on the power boxes!), supply most of the candy for the downtown-wide children's Halloween trick-or-treating, and try to attract more Long Islanders to visit our wonderful town.
I'm also a member of the Huntington Lion's Club. As we like to describe it: "We raise money and give it away. That's it." The Lion's Club donates to many local Huntington-area charities and food banks.
